The Much-Debated "Vegan" Recipes of Sweet Barbarian

I would definitely cook dinner for him anytime.

Ah, yes. The much-discussed dinner details in Sweet Barbarian. :) Some readers have expressed hate for this (prompting me to update the manuscript with reduced lists of ingredients about six months after it was originally released) while others have raved about how good Karly's vegetarian food sounds and mentioned they wanted the recipes. For the latter group, I am making a list of Karly's recipes below, with future-planned links to recipes. (I will update the links as I write posts with the recipes.)

Karly's Not Even Vegan

Karly, for the record, is vegetarian, not vegan. However, she got called "vegan" so often in the reviews that now even I call her vegan and can't seem to correct myself. :)

Why There's So Much Food Talk in Sweet Barbarian

Listen. I know there is way too much talk about food in this book. Let me attempt to explain myself. I didn't really MEAN to write it that way, but I guess cooking is such a huge part of the plot of Sweet is because Karly and Valamir are snowed in a mountain cabin for several days. What are you going to do? Cook and eat, of course, and talk, and play video games, and, y'know...some other stuff... ;-) I admit that unless you're really into food-talk it doesn't make for the most exciting or fast-paced plot in the world. And I want to say that when I released Sweet Barbarian I had no idea the novel was going to gain so much attention, which is a happy problem, but still a problem for those who aren't into hearing all about Karly's "vegan" cooking details.

Why Karly's Vegetarian

Karly's pretty much me, except I'm not in my thirties nor am I half Japanese. I was a vegetarian for 15 years, until the summer of 2015 when I shifted to a vegan diet. So I have a huge repertoire of vegetarian (and vegan) recipes that I routinely make and love. (Also, I just love cooking and eating in general, and I think cooking and eating dinner with a man is extremely sexy.) Thus, many of my most-loved dishes made it in almost-full detail into the first version of Sweet Barbarian.

Trust me, they don't just sound good. They ARE good. :))))

A List of Karly's Recipes

1. Oatmeal with nuts and berries (Breakfast the first morning Valamir wakes up in her cabin. Sitting down to that enormous bowl of goodness was the moment he starts falling in love with her. Hey, the way to a man's heart...especially if he hasn't eaten in about 1500 years...)

2. Mushroom-Barley Soup

3. Black Bean Soup with Avocado

4. Mushroom Lasagna

5. Steamed vegetables with Lemon-Parsley Gremolata (this is basically the same as my "Mediterranean Squash" dish, but with whatever vegetables you have on hand.)

6. Baked Sweet Potatoes with Butter

6. Veggie Burgers with Oven Fries

7. Cheese tortellini with Tomato-Cream Sauce

8. Buckwheat Pancakes with Cranberry Compote

9. Rustic Pizza with Roasted Vegetables

10. Blackberry Crumble with Coconut Ice Cream

11. Cinnamon French Toast

12. Potato-Leek Soup with Grilled Fontina-Tomato Sandwiches

13. Vegan Chocolate Brownies

Okay, dang. That IS a lot of food talk in one novel. Is food sexy, or no?????

Andaric's Story is Now Available for Kindle, Kindle Unlimited, and in Paperback!!!

Andaric escapes his execution, finds a way to follow his brother to the future, and gets arrested as the prime suspect in a serial murder case. Kaiya Martinez is the police psychologist assigned to evaluate the enormous, violent, non-English-speaking beast. Problem is, he's a little too gorgeously distracting...
Kaiya (the heroine of the sequel) doesn't cook, nor is she vegan. I learned my lesson with Sweet Barbarian. :)
